Brief Overview

  • Located in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India; nearest town is Ghangharia, just after Joshimath

  • Admired for its endearing meadows of alpine flowers and exceptional variety of flora. It was declared a National Park then and is now known for being a World Heritage Site

  • Pushpawati River bifurcates the valley into two parts making for prestine views of dew drops on flowers while the calmness of the cascading river can be rejoiced

  • Sub-alpine forests of birch and rhododendron cover parts of the park's area, while flowers like orchids, blue poppies (queen of Himalayan flowers), primulas, marigold, daisies and river anemones carpet the ground

  • The density of wild animals in the valley is very limited, but all the fauna found are rare or endangered. You may spot animals like asiatic black deer, blue sheep, musk deer, red fox, brown bear and snow leopard

  • Best time to visit is between July-September

  • Last ATM point is available in Joshimath


  • Day 1 - Pick-up from Dehradun Railway Station, drive to Joshimath/Govindghat by taxi and overnight stay at hotel – (10-11 hrs journey)

  • Day 2 - Trek to Ghangharia from Joshimath/Govindghat – 13 km (7-8 hrs)

  • Day 3 - Trek to spectacular Valley of Flowers & return back to Ghangharia – 12 km

  • Day 4 - Trek to Hemkund Sahib & return back to Ghangharia – 6 km (4-5 hrs)

  • Day 5 - Trek to Govindghat from Ghangharia – 13 km and drive to Joshimath for overnight stay in hotel

  • Day 6 - Drive to Dehradun from Joshimath by taxi - (10-11 hrs journey)

Overnight bus to ISBT, Dehradun from ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Delhi (see bus chart)
Suggestion: To take Uttarakhand Govt. buses from Delhi ISBT as they are punctual and quicker to reach than Pvt. Buses. They will drop you at Dehradun ISBT which is 6 km from Railway Station
