Brief Overview


  • Located in Chamoli district in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India; nearest town is Dewal, 36 km from Lohajung

  • Known for its high altitude glacial lake, frozen during most of the year and famous for the mysteries attached to it, human skeletal remains from the 9th century

  • This trek is fantastic because of the overwhelming nature it offers, such as deep virgin forests, babbling brooks, never-ending stretches of rolling meadows and snow-laden mountain sides

  • As you advance, you will be enchanted by the views of Himalayan peaks like Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, Kedarnath and Kedar Dome

  • Witness the sky sown with constellations at night and get astounded, gazing at the boundless number of stars around you

  • Best time to visit is during May, June, Sept & Oct

  • Last ATM points are available in Dewal & Karnaprayag




Itinerary


  • Day 1 - Pick-up from Kathgodam Railway Station (around 7:00 am), drive to Lohajung and night stay at guest house – 210 km (10/11 hrs)

  • Day 2 - Drive to Wan from Lohajung & then trek to Ghairoli Patal – 6 km trek (5/6 hrs) + 1 hr drive

  • Day 3 - Trek to Bedni Bugyal via Ali Bugyal from Ghairoli Patal – 10 km (5/6 hrs)

  • Day 4 - Trek to Pathar Nachuni from Bedni Bugyal – 6 km (4/5 hrs)

  • Day 5 - Trek to Baguwabasa via Kalu Vinayak from Pathar Nachuni – 5 km (4/5 hrs)

  • Day 6 - Trek to Roopkund & further ascend to Junargali Top (4924 m) from Baguwabasa & return back to Pathar Nachuni – 13 km (9/10 hrs)

  • Day 7 - Trek back to Lohajung via Bedni Bugyal and drive to Lohajung from Wan – 13 km trek (6/7 hrs) + 1 hr drive

  • Day 8 - After breakfast drive to Kathgodam from Lohajung and reach around 7 pm – 210 km drive (10/11 hrs)

Overnight bus to Haldwani (10 Kms from Kathgodam) from ISBT, Anand Vihar, Delhi (see bus chart)
Suggestion: To take Uttarakhand Govt. buses from Delhi ISBT as they are punctual and quicker to reach than Pvt. Buses. They will drop you at Haldwani which is 10 km away from Kathgodam

By Air

Direct flights are available from-

  • DEL - PGH

Kathgodam is around 40 Kms from Pantnagar Airport and Daily schedule of flight to Pantnagar from Delhi except Thursday. Dehradun Airport is around 35 km from Dehradun city

Instructions


  • Smoking cigarettes makes you lethargic & can potentially shortened your breath during the trek, we recommend not to smoke for your own good

  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed since it results in dehydration and can cause AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), it eventually reduces the oxygen level from the body

  • Buying drugs or any illegal material is strictly prohibited

  • Instructions from guide should be paid attention to and followed

  • Cancellations made 10 days before the commencement of the trip, 100% of total cost will be refunded
  • Cancellations made 5-9 days before the commencement of the trip, 50% of total cost will be refunded
