Brief Overview

  • Located in Rudraprayag district, in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India; nearest town is Ukhimath, just 15 km from Sari Village

  • Many name it a true paradise on Earth while others associate it with Switzerland, hence it is known as mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand. Chopta is classified amongst one of the most beautiful destinations to visit in winters in Uttarakhand

  • Begin the trek with rocky trails winding up the mountain ridge with splendid views of farmlands and village homes. Soon surroundings will open up, presenting a magnificent view of Deoria Tal just below the Chandrashila summit

  • Trek through an enchanting forest of Rhododendron, Pine, Oak and Maple with glimpses of Himalayan peaks through the trees. During the spring months, the forest is set ablaze with the pink and red blooms of the Rhododendrons

  • Comparable in bird diversity to the famed Goechala trek in Sikkim, you may spot Himalayan Woodpeckers, Bulbuls and Griffins, Sunbirds, Flycatchers, Turtle Doves and many species of Thrush & Great Barbet

  • At Chandrashila, one is rewarded with a spectacular view of many Himalayan ranges such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Kamet, Dronagiri, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, Thalaysagar, Jahanukut and Gangotri
